Bookkeeping-For-Restaurants-3-Reasons-You-Should-Move-To-The-Cloud.jpgRunning a restaurant is a huge responsibility. You’ve got to make sure that you never run out of essential supplies, manage your staff and make sure that they’re providing best of breed service, and keep customers coming through the door happy. Hopefully you have some time left over to perfect your recipes and develop your menu, which is why you opened up shop in the first place, right?

And we haven’t even mentioned bookkeeping, which is one of the “necessary evils” in any business. It may not be even remotely related to the reasons that you established your restaurant, but without accurate financial records, it’s going to be difficult or impossible to keep your doors open. Faced with this dilemma, more and more restaurant owners are moving their bookkeeping and accounting “to the cloud”. Here are some of the reasons why cloud or virtual bookkeeping may be an ideal solution for your restaurant:

  1. It frees up your time.

Time is a commodity that I’m sure you never have enough of, and unlike beverages, vegetables, spices, and other ingredients, you can’t order more of it. Fortunately, though, you can move you bookkeeping to the cloud, where a virtual accounting team can manage the whole affair for you. This allows you to step aside, and put your valuable time to much better and higher uses.

  1. It frees up space.

Space is another item that there never seems to be enough of in the restaurant world, especially with real estate prices in trendy neighborhoods. What space you can afford is best used for seating customers, food preparation, and storage. Hopefully you have some room for a desk for yourself, but most restauranteurs we know don’t have room to house a bookkeeper on-site. Even having a visiting bookkeeper come in a few days a month may be a challenge. Move it all to the cloud, and this is no longer a concern. All the work is basically handled invisibly, freeing up your precious space for more important uses.

  1. It gives you access to best of breed technology.

You may have an interest and even an aptitude for technology, but we don’t know too many restaurant owners that really want to get bogged down with researching financial software, learning how to use it optimally (or training your staff), and keeping it all constantly up to date. When you move your bookkeeping to the cloud, your virtual accounting team manages it all using state of the art accounting software, and there’s one less thing that you have to worry about. Furthermore, they’ll set you up with software that will interface simply and cleanly with your existing POS system to streamline things even more.
